Innovation: Mannerism
Mannerism was an art form back in the Italian Renaissance. It was a style of art created in Italy, and it lasted from about 1500 to 1580. A few people who helped start it were Jacopo da Panderre and Rosco Fiorentino. It was part of the Italian Renaissance movement from the 14th to the 16th centuries.
One Mannerist artist was El Greco, 'the Greek'. He was born in on Crete in 1541, which,at the time, had been ruled by Venice, Italy. Mannerist's have a unique style. The proportions of the the bodies are enlarged, or lengthened, by the artist. The figures have highly styled poses. And the paintings have a lack of clear perspective, unlike other art forms. (P)Like all things, this style came to end. Mannerism marked the end of the Italian Renaissance. Many Roman Mannerist's fled Rome in about 1527. These artists spread out far and wide, searching for work. Everywhere they travled they brouht this new art style with them.It had caused the first international style since Gothic. By 1580 it had been replaced with naturism.
